ExCEL Membership Statement
Membership is open to all persons interested in enhancing a child’s home-education and is not limited to those with school age children.
EXCEL is a non-profit organization, organized and administered by volunteers whose purpose is to offer support and information in areas pertaining to home-education.
EXCEL, as an organization, in all of its activities and publications, will promote academics and opportunities for home-education and will be all inclusive (i.e., all ages, races and religious denominations or lack thereof).
EXCEL will have family dues in the amount of $35.00 annually. Dues are non-refundable. Funds for membership will be used to further the organization’s purposes (as outlined in the mission statement). No funds will be used to support political candidates.
EXCEL is administered by a board-of-directors and a body of voting members. Any member may become a voting member by following the guidelines outlined in the organizations bylaws. All other members have a non-voting status.
Our purpose is to provide our children with academic, leadership, and service opportunities (outlined in the mission statement). Group activities will be decided by majority rule of voting members. Members within the group (voting or non-voting) may individually plan activities and choose which activities best serve their family’s purposes.

Membership Information
Membership in ExCEL Academic League is open to anyone who is currently homeschooling, considering homeschooling or is interested in supporting homeschoolers. Members should live in the SW Washington or Portland area and be willing to participate in group events and meetings. Each member is required to meet certain requirements to remain a member, as listed in the section titled membership requirements. Membership is for an entire school year.
Membership Requirements
In order for ExCEL Academic League to meet its objectives, it takes time and work. All members must work together to make ExCEL run smoothly. The following are requirements that must be fulfilled in order to receive full membership benefits.
- Each member is required to pay membership dues in the amount of $35.00 per year. This amount covers mailings, copies, refreshment supplies, award certificates and other miscellaneous expenses.
- Each member is encouraged to hold a position on a committee, OR provision of at least one service to ExCEL Academic League or its various sub-organizations.
How To Be An Active Member of ExCEL
Meetings ExCEL holds meetings in which leadership members come together to discuss past, present and future business items of ExCEL. All members are encouraged to take part in these meetings. Decisions made at these meetings will ultimately affect you, the member.
Volunteering Volunteers are the backbone of ExCEL. There are no paid staff members. A member may volunteer on a regular basis or as their schedule allows. We have numerous ways to serve—the ExCEL board, ECHO Co-op, Science Olympiad team, other academic competitions that need staffing, and special events to host. Let us know how you can help.
Participating Show up at ExCEL events and support homeschooling! Be it an open house, fund-raiser, fun day, etc., show your support by being there. ExCEL wants homeschoolers to be seen as the outstanding assets that they are to the community!
